The Man: Simple dialogue story:

The Man :
The Man: Ten-thirty, the corner of 5th and Oscar, client: Jake.
As he approaches the corner an anxious looking man is timidly looking up and down all the streets, then checking his watch, then taking a deep breath, before he starts the cycle over again. Our man walks calmly over his client.
The Man: “Pardon me sir; do you happen to know where I could get some good strong drinks?”
Jake: “Oh, yes. There is a nice little oriental bar just the next block over. They have the best sake in the city.”
The Man: “Sounds good, shall we go?”
Jake: “Ar-Are you the guy?”
The Man: “Are you Jake?”
Jake: “Yes, yes. I’m Jake.”
The Man: “Then I’m the guy.”
They headed over to the bar. Once there they took a seat in the back and ordered a few bottles of sake, so the waiter would not return for a while. Once they were alone Jake began to brief our man on the task he was to carry out.
Jake: “A millionaire named Linus Shobset, has a large property twenty-one miles outside of the city.”
The Man: “Hmp, well at least I won’t have to fly anywhere this time. Sorry continue.”
Jake: “He’s old money and just like most old money his values are stuck in the era of his wealth’s origin. Namely the late eighteen hundreds.”
The Man: “What does this have to do with me?”
Jake: “I’m just trying to give you some background on the guy, and a warning that if you get caught he is the only law in a thirty mile radius. Now, back to your target, once inside the house there should be a wall safe in the upper lounge room on the third floor. In that safe you should find money, some gems, maybe even some jewelry, and finally a small one-half-by-one foot briefcase. You can help yourself to anything else in the safe, but that briefcase is your target. If you fail to bring it to the rendezvous point you will not be paid.”
The Man: “Just the briefcase, that is a little scarce, what if the real target is no longer kept in the briefcase.”
Jake: “My employer has clearly stated that you should have no information outside of what is necessary. If the target has been moved then you may just be offered another job. Is that acceptable? Remember you were chosen because of your reputation for reliability of delivery.”
The Man: “No need to worry, I have no interest in what my clients are generally after. After all if you wanted simple treasures stolen you wouldn’t pay an equal amount just to get them. Also don’t be so nervous I may have been late in the past but I have never missed a drop point. As I always say, ‘the patient shall be rewarded.’
Jake: “One more thing my employer wanted to give you this.”
He lifted his briefcase onto the table and removed a tattered cigar box from it. He hands the box to our man.
The Man: “What’s this?”
Jake: “Just a small piece of protection for your mission.”
The Man: “You mean a gun.”
Jake looks around quickly seeing if anyone had heard that last word.
Jake: “Please sir, you have to be quieter.”
The Man: “Don’t worry Jake we’re done here anyway.”
He rose and slid his chair in.
Jake: “What about your cigars?”
The Man: “I appreciate the gesture, but I don’t smoke. If your employer has anymore questions he’ll have to reach me before five.”
Scene closes as our man puts on his coat and prepares to leave. A new scene opens with him in a car in a wooded area, he is spying on a large estate a little further down.
The Man: Jake was telling the truth this guy is old fashioned. The house is fairly nice but it looks like something out of the civil war. Whatever the more vintage this guy is the easier it should be for me to get in. Just have to keep out of sight until nightfall.
Our man stays put until sunset, after that he gets out and changes into a black ‘suit.’ By the time he has gathered up his equipment night has completely settled in. He heads off towards the house and the scene closes. Scene reopens with him leaving the lounge room with the briefcase in his hand.
